To make your web-article generate any traffic at all from search engines, it will have to reach out to your targeted market. In other words your article must be top listed in SERP (search engine result page) for at least one keyword or phrase. It doesn't matter if your article is the best article ever written if no one can reach it.


Before writing an article or blog post, you should always choose some describing keywords that you would like your article to rank for. These keywords should be keywords that you think would generate loads of traffic if your article was top listed in Google SERP, in other words not to unusual. Of course, it's not meant that you should get top listed for these keywords alone but they will become a perfect core of your article.


As you might know, the key-phrase from your article that will most likely get top listed in SERP's is the title. If you're not top listed for your title, you will probably not receive much traffic at all from search engines. If your website or blog is a small one like this one, follow my advice and always choose a title for your articles that will get top listed in SERP. Choose your keywords wisely to make your article title as targeted as possible for your intended audience. How do I know if my article title will be top listed in SERP?



The answer is, you don't. Your search engine ranking is affected by many different factors like your page's PageRank and the amount of competitors and their PageRank and optimizations. PageRank is a scale that measures the page's "link popularity", Google uses PageRank as a factor in their rankings. Increasing PageRank can take lots of time so we should instead concentrate on what we can improve, the amount of competitors.


When you are done writing your search engine and user friendly article it is now time to choose the best title for it. This process can take some time but don't be sloppy and take your time, this is when you decide the fate of your article. By just searching for the core keywords of your article in Google, you will be able to see how many results (competition) they show. By changing the order of the keyword you will see that the amount of results will change. If there are millions of search results for your title, it is a high risk that your page will never show up in the SERP and you won't get any visitors. That's why I recommend you to keep the search results of your article title under one million (if don't have a very popular site with high Page Rank). Just remember to not got too low, because then none will search for your title and you won't get any traffic anyways.

If you're not sure exactly how strong your competitors rankings are for your targeted key phrase, simply check their PageRank. You can check the PageRank of any webpage here.  If the page top ranked for your keyword has a higher PageRank than yours, it will most likely rank higher than you if you're both targeting the same keywords. Something to always have in mind is if Wikipedia.org shows up to be listed for your keyword. Sites like Wikipedia.org are almost impossible to compete with so you should definitely try something else. If articles from article directories or "ezines" are listed for your targeted keyword, give that title a shoot.

Form your title into something that people would search for


A title with just some keywords lined after each other isn't very user-friendly. No one will search for that particular keywords in the same order as you put them.  By inserting conjunctions, interjections and query words in your title, make it a question or a term that someone would search for if they were looking for your article. Tips - By looking at the top listed page-titles of your search, you can see how optimized your competitors are for your key-phrase. If you see a perfect match, try something else.
