Social media marketing - insane blog traffic

Your chance to get insane blog traffic by posting links and optimizing your website for users

For many blogs/websites, SMO (social media optimizing) is one of the most important parts of SEO. SMO to me means traffic, back-links and feedback. By posting links at social medias like Digg, Reddit or Facebook you will first of all (hopefully;) get visitors through your submitted links. The links will serve as PageRank boosters as they come from trusted sources. The visitors who hopefully read your article will judge it through criticizing comments. Believe it or not, these comments are what make your website stronger. You will need all negative and positive opinions about your website to make it evolve into something better. Take notice of what the visitors (the people) say and optimize your website from it.

So what should you do to get access to those amazing benefits of social marketing?

My advice is to always post new articles or blog-posts to at least Reddit or Digg. If your website is made for commercial only and you won't be able to help someone with it, don't waste the time of yours and others and seek advertising and links somewhere else. If you are a blogger, social medias are a must because this is where your readers are.

I cannot guarantee that SMO will bring you insane traffic, but it will give you an equal chance. It is only "interesting" content that will give you traffic. If your content is not "interesting", like this informative article, you will probably not get much traffic at all from rating social medias like Digg or Reddit. So what's interesting content? Well, the articles that succeed at social medias are often news, funny pictures or jokes with a huge audience. The articles should not be too long and written as blog posts. If you succeed with creating an "interesting" or surprising post, a social media like Reddit can give you insane traffic with hundreds or even thousands of visitors in one day! If not, you won't lose anything by posting your links, you will still receive back-links and feedback, even though it's not always positive.

Make your website more user-friendly and let your visitors share it with their friends

Get a social media share bar like me. What you see in the upper right corner is a what every blogger/webmaster should have. You will make it incredibly easy for the visitors to share what they've read and it will bring you new visitors and back-links. This is a simple widget that you can get from many places on the internet.  I'm using a widget from sharethis.com, you can optimize the widget so it fits your website. A free registration is required but according to me it's totally worth it. Just copy/paste the code wherever you want it in your HTML code.

How does social media work as a traffic generator?

Believe it or not the social media that will give you most traffic aren't the giants most people visit every day. Facebook and Twitter are good communities where you can market your website but they have limits. You can share your articles with your friends, sometimes they can be spread further but mostly you won't meet the big audience. That's why you should turn to rating-based social media like Reddit or Digg. When you post your link, it will be added to their directory. People will be able to up- or down vote it. Your link will climb closer to the main page for every up-vote it gets. The more positive votes and comments your link gets the greater audience it will meet. This type of social media will give every blogger a chance, you don't have to have a wide network of friends to share your news.

List of social media networks like Reddit and Digg:

Tips - When posting a link at websites like Reddit.com or Digg.com, the title you write when posting your link is what will work as your storefront and anchor text that people will click on. Therefore it is of great importance to make this title interesting.
