How to find the best color for Adsense ads

Which one of these ads would you rather click on?

Have you ever heard the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words"? So, what is it in a picture that can tell a thousand words? There are so many factors but I would say, "The color is worth at least a hundred words".

It is scientifically determined that colors affect our behavior. We associate different colors with different feelings. From the opposite view, a color can help to evoke a feeling. In this article I will show you how different colors of advertising is related to psychology.

Why do you think the title of a standard Adsense ad is blue? There is no coincidence, blue is associated with trusted and trusted is exactly what Google wants their advertisers to appear to be.  The image below shows how we associate colors with emotions. Okay, here's a question for you: If you want as many ad clicks as possible(I bet you do), what color of your "text ad title" should you use?

Sometimes you want your ads to blend into your webdesign but I don't think you want any color that easily could be missed by a glance. Therefore we can exclude some close to natural colors such as grey and black. We can also add brown to this category since it's not very eye-catching. White, pink and sometimes violet are too bright to be used as ad titles.

We can split the remaining colors; red, orange, yellow, green, purple and blue into two groups. One group with more "screaming" colors and another one with more natural ones. Red, orange and yellow goes into the fist group and green, purple/violet and blue are the more natural ones.

Now back to emotions, what emotions should an ad evoke? If a color could represent trust and curiosity, it would be the ideal ad color. But there is no such color so we have to choose between those that already exist. Some good "ad color properties" that our selected colors have are: Trust, "fight or flight", friendliness, quality and fun. Fight or flight is in this case the same as "click or avoid to click" and that can in this case be seen as a positive property. Google´s choice was to make their standard ad title blue, they wanted to prioritize the reliability of their brand. A red title might have generated more clicks but the ad wouldn't look reliable and it might hurt their brand since red is easily associated with viruses and spam.

The most successful ad color for this site, might not be the best ad color for your site. It can depend on the color scheme of the site, the targeted visitors or sometimes it don't even make any difference. The best way to find out what color that is most successful for your site is by trial and error. Use different Adsense channels on different ad colors and you will soon notice what is best for you.

So which ad did you rather click on? My suggestion is that you begin with the colors red and blue, find out which one of them you should use for maximum revenue. You can always be creative of course. I have not seen many purple Adsense ads but it might be your success. Good luck, I wish you all the best!
